Hustle Bae Blog/Personal Development/Mastering the Art of Time Management to Achieve Your Goals

Time management is a crucial aspect of life that can help you lead a more fulfilling and productive life. It is a common struggle for many ambitious women who want to make the most of their life and achieve their goals. The fast-paced and demanding world we live in can often leave us feeling like we are always running from one thing to another, with very little time to actually enjoy the things that matter. This can make it challenging to be productive, both at work and in our personal life. But, it doesn’t have to be this way girl!

If you’re an ambitious woman who wants more out of life, it’s time to break free from the monotony of daily life and take control of your time. Whether it’s landing your dream job, starting a family, or just having more time for self-care, time management is key to becoming the best version of yourself and going after your goals.

In this blog, let’s take a closer look at time management.

#1 You Are What You Do With Your Time

We've all heard the phrase, "time is money" but have you ever considered the idea that "you are what you do with your time"? This concept can be a game-changer when it comes to managing your time and reaching your goals. It's a simple idea, but one that has the power to transform the way you think about time and your life.

First and foremost effective time management is to recognize that you are in control of your time. You might have a job, children, or other obligations, but ultimately, the choices you make with your time are yours. If you find yourself saying "I don't have time" to do something, the truth is that it's just not a priority for you. & you know what? Thats okay! This realization can be empowering because it means that you can choose to make time for the things that are important to you.

Think about it, if you spend six hours binge-watching netflix, you're choosing to do that. If you spend hours scrolling through social media, that's a choice. And if you don't have time to work out, it's because you've chosen not to make that a priority. The key is to understand that you have control over your time and to use it in a way that aligns with your goals and priorities. So, instead of saying, "I don't have time to work out today," say, "I won't make time to work out today." This simple switch in words can help you recognize that you are making a choice and that you have control over your time.

#2 Priority Task

This tip comes from the book"Make Time" by by Jake Knapp & John Zeratsky. Girl, let me tell you, the daily highlight tip is a game-changer! It's like the secret weapon to slaying your to-do list. The concept is simple - each day, choose one thing to be your highlight. This is the only thing you need to get done that day. Trust me, on days where I set my daily highlight, I'm always more productive and way more satisfied with what I've accomplished. But when I don't have a daily highlight, it's like drowning in a sea of endless tasks. The daily highlight helps you stay focused and prioritize what's most important or even just what's most fun. Give it a try, you'll be surprised at how much more productive and fulfilled your days will become.

#3 The Handy Dandy, To Do List

Number three for time management is to use a to-do list. Once I figured out what my daily highlight is, I make a list of the other tasks I have to tackle that day and use my trusty productivity app, Notion, to keep track. The general principle of productivity is that our brain is for having ideas, not for holding onto them. And a big part of why we let things slip through the cracks when it comes to managing our time and productivity is because we haven't written them down.

So, I write down anything I need to do in Notionand cross things off as I go throughout the day. It doesn't really matter what system you use for a to-do list, but the key is to get everything out of your head and onto a platform that you trust to keep track of your tasks even if its just writing it down on paper.

#4 Time-Blocking

Let’s talk about it because this one has to be my favorite. Time blocking is when you schedule specific blocks of time in your calendar for different tasks or activities. I personally use Google Calendar for my time blocking. But the best part about time blocking is that it allows you to prioritize your daily highlight. Let’s say, your daily highlight is to prepare for an important presentation at work, you can schedule a block of time in your calendar specifically dedicated to that task.

Not only does this give you assurance that your daily highlight will get done, but it also allows for flexibility in case something unexpected arises. Think about it, if every day for the next year, you were able to accomplish your most important task of the day, imagine the progress and growth you would experience. Time blocking is a simple yet powerful tool that can revolutionize the way you manage your time.

#5 Parkinson’s Law

Alright, now let's talk about the power of deadlines. You may have heard of Parkinson's Law, especially if you’re in the Private Facebook Group because I literally bring it up all the time. Well, Parkinson’s Law states that work expands to fill the time we allocate for it. This can be a real problem for women in school or in a career field who are juggling multiple tasks and responsibilities. But there's a solution: leverage fictitious deadlines.

For example, let's say you're working on a big project for school or work and you don't have a set deadline. It's all too easy for the project to get pushed to the back burner and never actually get done. But if you set yourself a goal and schedule time in your calendar to work on the project, you'll be more likely to follow through and get it done.

Think of it like this: if you only give yourself a limited amount of time to complete a task, you'll be more focused and efficient in that time. And before you know it, you'll have accomplished something you might have otherwise put off indefinitely. So next time you're feeling overwhelmed by a big project, try setting an fictitious deadline for yourself and see how it changes your approach and productivity.

#6 Me Time a.k.a Self Care

When you are an entrepreneur and you like working for yourself and all that, you end up basically being able to set whatever schedule you want. So its super important for me to have allotted me time and honestly for women like us it's just easy to get caught up with all our responsibilities, meetings, kids stuff, husband stuff, life stuff and putting ourselves 2nd, 3rd, or last in our own lives. That's why having dedicated "me time" is so crucial for staying productive and happy and not burning ourselves out.

As a productivity coach, I make sure to keep the start of my day completely free of any appointments or obligations. This allows me to tackle my own priorities without any interruptions. Whether it's working on a personal or professional project, catching up on school work, or just taking a moment to relax, this allotted time sets the tone for a productive day ahead. But even on days where I'm not working in my business, it's just genuinely so nice to have that time slot. I usually use this time to get stuff done for school or for my non-profit, or to just kind of relax and listen in to a good podcast.

So, if you're looking to better manage your time, consider carving out some "me time" for yourself. It doesn't have to be a whole day, just a dedicated chunk of time that's solely for you and your goals. Trust me, you'll thank yourself for it later.

#7 Delegate

We've all heard the saying that we have the same 24 hours as Beyonce, but let's be real, Beyonce has a team of people to help her make the most of those 24 hours. For the rest of us, delegation is key. By outsourcing tasks that we don't enjoy or that can be done more efficiently by someone else, we free up our time to focus on what we're best at and what brings us the most joy and fulfillment. So while we may not have Beyonce's 24 hours, by smartly delegating, we can come pretty close.

So let's make the most of the time we do have and delegate like a boss, because the last thing we want is to waste time doing things that could have been done by someone else while we sit and act like we have octopus arms. Time is precious, let's not waste a single second!

And there you have it...

Seven powerful ways to manage your time to help you achieve your goals. You are in control of your time, and your time is valuable. Don't waste it on things that bring you no real value or benefit. Instead, use it to achieve your goals, bring joy to your life, and make a positive impact on the world. Remember, you are what you do with your time, so make sure you're making the most of it.

HAVE A GREAT DAY ON PURPOSE
